 ‘Dancing in the street’ paragraph 3  https://youtu.be/4TOkLq8wG1Q Chakkars  A chakkars is a spin that is a critical element in the Jaipur gharana of Kathak dance.  The dancers arm is usually held out and there knees are bent to help them increase there momentum when Turing.  Here are a couple of examples where I use Chakkars with in my piece with my group.  As you can see in these photos we have our legs bent out arm out straight so it gives us the momentum that we need to turn.  Chakkars are known as a ballet turn with in Northan India however, there's a lot of contrast between the two because when you do a chakkar turn your knees are bent and low with you arm out and feet turned out in first position where as with a balletic turn your legs are straight and arms are in or sometimes in a different position with an upright posture.
