The Kathak originates from Northern Indian. 

The name of the original storytellers are kathakars.

The Kathak was originally performed in Northern India it’s origins to the nomadic poets of the scientific northern Indians.


Key features of Kathak Dancing

Mudras - this means the use of hand gestures when dancing. 



Bols - this means rhythmic spoken words, each word acts as if it is one of the counts in this type of dance. 


Chakkar - this means the use of spins, these are generally executed on the heel Which contrast to ballet 

pirouette. 



Gungurus - the bells around the ankles



Tatkar - this means percussive footwork


Mudras



This gesture show above means the word traffic as you can see we are going into a slight lunge, trying to use a little bit of Bols to keep us in time with the movement.
