The stylistic features of jazz dance

This picture is showing isolations, isolation’s are used at the beginning of jazz dance classes in order to help loosen up the body as you have to move your hips or ribs to the beat of the music similar to how the African slaves danced to Jazz music they moved only one part of the body while the rest of the body remains still.

This photo is showing dancers using a low centre of gravity which is to keep balance dancers tend to use a low center of gravity and soft knee’s because it helps maintain transitions from one movement to the next.

This photo is showing a contraction which is the contrast between desire and duty. The respected use of contractions and releases give a rhythmic energy to the movements in this technique given by choreographer Martha Graham.

This photo is of a dancer using sensuality which is dance that is supposed to look sexy so it tends to use a lot of things like hip thrusting and buttocks movements.

Jazz hands is an extension of a performances hands with palms facing towards the audience and fingers splayed. They are often used to finish of a show in order to give a strong and sharp ending.

A dynamic is a juxtaposition of a smooth movement it’s more sharp and direct to give variety and enactment to the style.
